Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements
To receive federal, state or institutional funds at Wayne State University, you must meet the following requirements.
- Have a high school diploma, GED, or high school education in a home school setting
- Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- Male students must be registered with Selective Service, if required
- Certify that you will use federal student aid for educational purposes on the FAFSA
- Be enrolled at least half-time.
- Have a valid social security number
- Make satisfactory academic progress as a student attending Wayne State University
- Not have been convicted of a drug offense while receiving federal financial aid
- Certify that you are not in default on a federal student loan and that you do not owe money on a federal student grant.
- Be enrolled as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program of study. Guest students are not eligible to receive financial aid funds.
You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at the University for the purpose of obtaining a degree or certificate. An eligible program leads to a degree or a certificate.
Eligible Program Exceptions
There are exceptions to the “eligible program” requirement: (1) admitted conditionally or provisionally and taking prerequisite coursework necessary for full admission to an eligible program, (2) enrolled in courses required for elementary or secondary teacher certification or re-certification, or (3) enrolled in other approved post-bachelor certificate programs.
