Disbursement and Refunds
Date Aid is Applied to your Student Account Balance
If you have met all requirements and register for the semester, you can expect your aid to be applied to your university student account balance according to the following schedule.
Spring and Spring/Summer 2013 Semester: After April 29
Summer 2013 Semester: After June 17, 2013
April 1 eBill Due Date: If you have financial aid to cover your balance, don’t worry. You will not owe a late fee.
Students will begin receiving semester refunds the first week of classes.
Your grades must be posted and you must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the end of the semester in order to receive funds for the next semester. If you are not meeting SAP standards, you may file an appeal for aid eligibility consideration.
See the Bursar webpage for payment options for any remaining account balance.
You will receive a financial aid refund if the amount of financial aid you receive is greater than your account balance.
Important Information about Changes in the Refund Process
Please take action to receive a timely refund.
Financial Aid Refunds
Your financial aid will be credited to your tuition account to pay for your tuition, fees and any on-campus housing charges. When these charges are paid, the University Student Accounts Receivables Office will refund any remaining aid to you.
This excess aid is for you to use for your books, housing, food, transportation and other miscellaneous costs.
When You Will Receive Your Refund
Aid is not paid to your student account until the week prior to the official start of the semester.
-
The refund process begins when financial aid has paid to your eBill.
-
You will receive an email from MyWSUCard with specific details about your refund, including the amount, and the timeframe for the refund option you have chosen.
Processing Times for New Refund Options
| Refund Option | Refund timing after aid has paid your eBill |
| Paper Check | 9 business days |
| ACH/Direct Deposit | 6-7 business days |
| Easy Refund to myWSUCard | 4 business days |
Financial aid is applied in two payments if the award is for the academic year, half in the fall semester and the other half in the winter semester.
Late financial aid applicants will receive payment after an award is offered and accepted provided other award conditions are completed, such as entrance loan counseling and signing a loan master promissory note.
Returning a Refund
You have the right to cancel all or a portion of your student loans and may do so by notifying us in writing within 30 days of payment. Include your full name, student number, and signature.
See our Federal Loan Refund Return Form for more information about returning your refund to WSU.
