We encourage you to pursue these outside sources of assistance. In addition to the potential resources listed below, we urge you to check with any organization or employer that you or your family are affiliated.
External aid you receive may reduce the amount of loans you may borrow, and thereby reduce your loan indebtedness.
North American Indian Education Grants
Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver (MITW): Beginning July 15, 2010 the Michigan Department of Civil Rights will verify as eligible for the MITW, only applicants who are no less than 1/4 blood quantum as certified by their US federally recognized tribal association to be enrolled members.

AmeriCorps
Full-time AmeriCorps members who complete their service earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans; members who serve part-time receive a partial Award. Some AmeriCorps members may also receive a modest living allowance during their term of service. See americorps.gov for more information.

US Department of Veterans Affairs
The GI Bill website includes information on the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 or “New GI Bill.”

No Worker Left Behind
No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) is a program for transitioning workers into good-paying jobs by providing up to two years worth of free tuition at any community college, university, or other approved training provider. The program is available to help workers gain the skills and credentials for new careers in high-demand occupations, emerging industries, or to start a business.
