Transfer Students
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) welcomes you to Wayne State University. The following is important information about receiving and retaining your financial aid at WSU.
Steps to Receiving Aid
-
File the FAFSA:
Your very first step in receiving financial aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov. Be sure to use the Wayne State University school code: 002329. If you have already filed the FAFSA for the academic year, be sure to add our school code, so we may receive your information. Do this as soon as possible. If you have already received aid for the current year, we will review your financial aid history to determine your current eligibility. This process is called Transfer Monitoring and may delay your award.
-
Access WSU PIPELINE:
A copy of your FAFSA will be sent electronically to WSU. You will be able to access your personal financial aid information online via WSU Pipeline, the secure portal for information and resources at Wayne State University. Your Pipeline AccessID and temporary password are mailed to you from the Office of Computing & Information Technology (C&IT) upon application to WSU. Assistance accessing Pipeline is available from C&IT.
Accessing Your Financial Aid Information on Pipeline:
- Login at pipeline.wayne.edu using your WSU Access ID and password. Your access ID begins with two letters followed by four numbers.
- Click on the "Financial Aid" tab at the top of the page.
-
Check Your WSU EMAIL:
The Financial Aid Office will send e-mail to your WSU email account to update you on your financial aid status. Reading your email is a very important step as you may have outstanding requirements that prevent you from receiving your financial aid award. We will also email you when your award is ready for your acceptance. Remember: All status information is also available on Pipeline.
IMPORTANT: Watch for a Revised Award email notice. If you borrow student loans at another school and transfer to WSU mid-year, we may be required to revise your loan awards after they have been disbursed to you. If we are required to remove loan funds, this may create a balance owed to WSU. Speak with a Financial Aid Officer if you have questions about your loan eligibility.
-
Complete ALL Requirements:
Incomplete requirements will delay processing. Additional documentation may be required if you are selected for verification, or there is a discrepancy in your information. In addition, some aid programs have additional requirements. For instance, if you are borrowing federal loans at WSU, you will need to complete entrance loan counseling and sign master promissory notes.
