Work Study
A federal work-study award is offered to students with financial need who may contribute towards their educational expenses by working part-time. Work-study funds are very limited, and not all eligible applicants receive an award.
Funding is limited and if you do not accept an award within 30 days of being offered, you may lose the award.
Eligibility
- You must file an annual FAFSA, qualify for federal student aid and demonstrate financial need.
To be eligible for a work-study job, you must first receive a work-study award and enroll at least half time. At the undergraduate level, half time is six to 11 credits and at the graduate level, half time is 4 credits.
Finding a Position
Students who receive a work-study award can visit WSU Career Services (Room 1001, Faculty Administration Building) or at www.careerservices.wayne.edu to review job listings. Placement assistance is provided in matching student interests to jobs.
Keep in mind the following:
-
You may work up to 20 hours per week.
-
Your supervisor must submit a New Hire Form to Career Services Office, 1001 Faculty/Administration Building, 577-3390.
-
You may declare a semester as an “off-semester” during which you may work up to 40 hours per week provided you enroll on a half time basis. To declare an “off-semester,” contact the Career Services Office.
-
Allow three to five weeks from the date that you are hired to receive your first paycheck
A work-study award is not an employment guarantee. Carefully read the Student Guide to On-Campus Employment for information and instructions concerning the work-study employment process.
